Thames Gateway Power

Thames Gateway Power is a proposal to develop a sustainable business that produces renewable energy and reduces landfill as well as the creation of new engineering and process jobs.

Thames Gateway Power will be one of the first occupiers on the 60 acre London Sustainable Industries Park currently being developed by the London Thames Gateway Development Corporation (LTGDC) at Dagenham Dock. The Sustainable Industries Park development is scheduled to attract new jobs in the environmental and technology sectors through the development of over 1 Million square feet of buildings. Over the last two years the London Thames Gateway Development Corporation has invested around £40 million, assembling around 25 hectares (c. 60 acres) of sites and is now working with developers Goodman to bring forward the Park.

Improving local transport links, good access to both Central London and the regional road network and the availability of wharfage for river transport make this an ideal location. The aim is to create a development model which others will follow, establishing a benchmark for environmental technology business parks elsewhere in London, the UK and beyond.

Thames Gateway Power will be able to provide renewable and low carbon heat, cooling and power to occupiers on the Sustainable Industries Park as well as providing much needed landfill avoidance for the commercial businesses not only on the Sustainable Industries Park. The facility will also be able to offer a non landfill alternative to many other organisations in the local London boroughs with the scale of the operation sized to be of benefit to the wider East London business community. After initial site identification the company undertook a scoping study to ensure that its planning application would cover all issues deemed necessary. In late February 2010 a planning application and accompanying Environmental Statement will be submitted to the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham.

This website has been designed to provide information on the proposal and seek comment and involvement from the local community. Visitors to the website are able to get information explaining what the development will entail, why the site was chosen, how it will benefit East London, and what it will look like. Finally there is a section where questions can be asked and you can sign up for information as the application progresses.
